This is the video that one man has made while he and his wife are traveling in Kyoto.  They have just purchased Yatsuhashi, and are showing it and explaining what it is in the short film. If you are ever there in Kyoto, you must try this delicate sweet for yourself.  We hear that it is as delightful as any other confection that you will find in all of Japan, and that once you try it, you will always remember its delicate sweet flavor and will want to return to buy more.

The Great History

Yasaka Shrine was originally built in 656 AD. Dedicated to Susa-no-o, the god of prosperity and good health, most of the buildings that remain today are from a reconstruction that took place in 1654.  The shrine, in addition to being dedicated to Susa-no-o, it also is dedicated to his wife, and to the eight children they have together.

In 869, the omikoshi of Gion Shrine were paraded through the streets of Kyoto to ward off an epidemic that had hit the city, and the portable shrines were made popular this way for processions. This was the origin of the Gion Matsuri, an annual festival that has become world famous for its breathtaking beauty, diversity in foods and cultures, and ability to attract tourists from all parts of the globe.

You will be certain that a visit to the Yasaka Shrine will be one you will always remember most fondly.  Do come and visit here, plan to stay for a while.
